We just had a little birthday over here at The Muffin Myth. As in the royal we. As in, I’m now thirty-two. Just let me take a moment to digest that; it some how seems so much older than 30 or 31. In a good way though, rounder, more complete. Am I making any sense?

In any case, if you are in Vancouver and you’ve got a reason to celebrate, let me recommend Nuba to you. I hit the newest Nuba location, at the Waldorf Hotel, with a gaggle of hip and cool people who were kind enough to spend their evening with me, and we enjoyed an amazing feast. I asked our server to choose  a menu for us and serve us family style, and so everyone got a little bit of everything. It was fantastic food, and even after my friends refused to let me contribute to the meal, I believe the food tab came to no more than about $15 per paying person. Friends, thank-you. Your generosity is surpassed only by your ridiculously good looks.

All I asked for for my birthday was some flours. A couple of people checked in to see if I had intended to say all I wanted was some flowers but my months in Sweden had tarnished my ability to spell in English. I know what I said. And so, they brought me flours; spelt, millet, soy, tapioca, chickpea, buckwheat, and hazelnut. Hot dang! Amazingly, only two of the flour varietals I received appear in my book about baking with alternative flours, so I’ve got my work cut out for me researching and figuring out some recipes for my bouquet. Stay tuned for more reports on my adventures with flours!
